Taught in Uganda through a semester-long program of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, this course introduces the basic methods for infectious disease epidemiology and public health case studies of important disease syndromes effecting Uganda and East Africa. Methods include definitions and nomenclature, basic disease pathology, symptom presentation,

NMS 4930: Cross-Cultural Practicum and Global 健康 Seminar (6)

Prerequisite: Acceptance into the Uganda Studies Program. Taught in Uganda as part of the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities Uganda Studies Program (USP). The Cross Cultural Practicum (3 credits) and Global 健康 Seminar (1 credit) are taught as a combined course that is required for all Global 健康 Students. The Cross Cultural component provides students with the opportunity to enrich their understanding of culture as well as further develop and practice their own cultural competence through active service learning and participation and integration into a Ugandan community. A list of eight cross-cultural competencies will serve as guideposts as students learn and grow through their experiences: openness, 灵活性, 订婚, 自我意识, 文化谦卑, 适应性/韧性, cross-cultural skills and integration.
